What do the world’s wealthiest people, NASA astronauts, Olympic athletes and the Navy seals all have in common?
They all realize that the difference between victory and defeat comes from upgrading their mindset.
The top performers in any field spend a large majority of their time upgrading their brains.
They realize that the secret to getting that unfair advantage or edge over their competition starts in their mind.
Now, if you’re not performing at the level you know you’re capable of… and if you’re not earning the kind of money you know you deserve, the reason is probably because you haven’t worked on upgrading your brain.
When you upgrade your brain, it’s very easy to upgrade your income.
I spent some time on a live webinar this week with John Assaraf prior to his 6th Annual Brainathon
He believes that to achieve success I life you need to take 3 steps:
1. Think — Have a plan of what you really want to achieve in life
2. Believe — Have unwavering faith that you will absolutely achieve your dreams
3. Achieve — Take the necessary action to make your dreams a reality
John believes that, unlike a lot of people in the self-development space who state that success is purely about mindset (as per the film and book The Secret), the film left a big part out!
Skillset.
This is not mentioned in The Secret anywhere and yet it makes sense if you think about it. You may have a fantastic goal in life but if you do not have the skills to get you there, or the mental ability to learn those skills, then you will never achieve what you truly want.
Harsh but true methinks!
So many people will not get off their butts to do what it takes to get the life that others dream of.
Many people say that they ‘believe’ that they can achieve something. However, this is their conscious mind trying to cajole their subconscious mind into believing the statement! However, the subconscious mind will ALWAYS win out and due to the beliefs that you have stored away in your subconscious mind, it makes you doubt your abilities.
It’s a little like having the angel and the devil on your shoulders.
Henry Ford once said — “If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, either way you’re right.”
So, you MUST remove the old patterns and belief systems that are stored in the deep recesses of your subconscious mind.
A great way to tap into your subconscious mind is with meditation.
Meditation creates calm in the mind and causes a coherence between the good parts of your mind that work positively. It also enables you to become more aware of what is going on in your mind. My wife and I do meditation several times a week and it really works to give you greater clarity and helps you travel through life in a more calm way.
Every brain is the same. There are now studies that show that the old left and right sides of the brain research is not entirely correct and that neuroplasticity is the way forward.
There are two types of people who will tell you that you cannot make a difference in this world: those who are afraid to try and those who are afraid you will succeed.” — Ray Goforth
What is Neuroplasticity?
Neuroplasticity is the creation of new neural pathways — here is the medical definition as per http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=40362
The brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. Neuroplasticity allows the neurons (nerve cells) in the brain to compensate for injury and disease and to adjust their activities in response to new situations or to changes in their environment.
Brain reorganization takes place by mechanisms such as “axonal sprouting” in which undamaged axons grow new nerve endings to reconnect neurons whose links were injured or severed. Undamaged axons can also sprout nerve endings and connect with other undamaged nerve cells, forming new neural pathways to accomplish a needed function.
For example, if one hemisphere of the brain is damaged, the intact hemisphere may take over some of its functions. The brain compensates for damage in effect by reorganizing and forming new connections between intact neurons. In order to reconnect, the neurons need to be stimulated through activity.
Neuroplasticity sometimes may also contribute to impairment. For example, people who are deaf may suffer from a continual ringing in their ears (tinnitus), the result of the rewiring of brain cells starved for sound. For neurons to form beneficial connections, they must be correctly stimulated.
Neuroplasticity is also called brain plasticity or brain malleability.
This means that you can change the way your brain sees things which in turn can change your subconscious mind which in turn can help you believe that you can achieve your heart’s desire and ACTUALLY do it!
“Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. Don’t wish it were easier; wish you were better.” — Jim Rohn
Here is an exercise — or Innercise as John calls it!
Take some quiet time and write out what you would like your ideal life to be like in minute detail. Write it as if there were no restrictions and anything was possible. Start the piece off with “I am so grateful and happy that…..” and write it as if you already have it.
Where would you live, what car would you drive, what job would you do, what would your relationship be like, what would your body image be like. What would your hobbies be, how many holidays would you have, how would you give back to the world (charity work or donations) etc etc
Then type it up and maybe even get it laminated.
Now, when you brush your teeth, take your dream life and read it whilst brushing and feel it inside. Imagine how it will feel when you achieve your dream life. Feeling it is very important as this is one of the best emotions for changing your subconscious belief about something.
Do it every day without fail and it will become a habit. Studies from the University of London state that it takes 66 days to create a habit. Once you have created a new habit, you are far more likely to do the things you need to do to achieve your dreams and goals.
Another thing you need to do is to ask yourself — “Are you interested or committed?”
The vast majority of people are only interested in changing their lives, or making more money etc. But they are very quick to make excuses as to why they cannot do it! “There is not enough time, I don’t know how, yes but!” and on and on!
However, if you really want to reach your goals you need to be fully committed. You need the passion so that NOTHING will stop you from realising your dreams. You will stop at nothing to achieve them.
This quote from John sums it up — “If you are interested you’ll do what’s convenient. If you’re committed, you’ll do whatever it takes.”
Never say “I can’t” Change it to “It’s not that I can’t, it’s just that I haven’t learned how to, yet!”
A great affirmation from John De Martini is to say this to yourself everyday “I am a genius and I apply my wisdom” This strengthens your desire.
A great quote from John Assaraf is “Do more of what you love, less of what you tolerate and none of what you hate”
So, that was what I gleaned from the session. Amazing food for thought. Now obviously John was not there just for a chat he was there to promote his upcoming FREE 6th Brainathon 2017 which takes place on October 7th 2017.
